PROJECT OVERVIEW

Insite Facades was engaged by Aspec Construction to deliver a large complicated terracotta tile rainscreen project for Kings School in Remuera.

​The design incorporated terracotta wings that protruded between the inter-classroom junctions, and various lengths that would give the building a sense of classic modernism.

​Twenty-four pallets of imported terracotta tiles and custom designed extruded terracotta baguettes made up a 28-tonne shipment from our suppliers in Germany. With meticulous set-out and structure coordination from the site management experts at Aspec, the fins started to take shape in the last quarter of 2017, with completion in early 2018.

​Insite Facades required a dedicated team of 12 installers for 6 months on the project, to close-out the technical rainscreen elements, whilst also delivering the full curtain wall contract, simultaneously.  The scope included a wrap-shield that provides a weathering barrier behind the brickwork, as well as our own rainscreen elements of 15x3M high pre-assembled baguettes, and complex flashings to the bottom of the fins.

​The design was challenging, however together with Warren & Mahoney Architects (WAM), Aspec worked through the complex junction detail squeezing the result into a tight and non-negotiable time frame, this allowed the prestigious school to re-open on schedule.

​This project is a credit to both WAM and Aspec, with the combined installation expertise of Insite Facades and Thermosash Ltd's manufacturing horsepower and window solutions.

​Our own Magni telescopic handler equipment was used for the challenging installation methodology to lift and install the terracotta baguettes to predefined bolted position between I-beams. The final result delivered a stunning facade/rainscreen solution on one of Auckland's iconic educational facilities.
